Workshop 3 – Public safety mobile broadband: governance, operating models and funding

Tuesday 1 Dec: 9:30am - 12.45pm
Presented by: Alexander (Sandy) MacQuarrie — Charles Stuart University / Station Officer Graham Tait — Fire & Rescue NSW / Alex Stefan — Telstra Global Enterprise and Services / Chris Moore — Former Chief of Police San Jose, California /

Over the past few years in Australia, United States, United Kingdom and Canada, there has been a great deal of debate on the issue of public safety mobile broadband.  Much of the focus has been on why public safety and emergency management require their own dedicated spectrum, what frequency bands are best and how much broadband spectrum is truly required.

However, much less discussion has focused on critical issues such as:

How should public safety mobile broadband be governed?

Should the system, or systems of systems, be publicly or privately owned and/or operated (or some combination thereof)?

How will public safety mobile broadband be funded?

This workshop, with a number of national and international experts, will explore these and other strategic issues relating to public safety mobile broadband in Australia.

Moderater: Kit Wignall – UXC Consulting
