In 2013 the ACMA began implementing reforms in the 400 MHz band, to enhance its utility, harmonise government use and to enable the use of new technologies. The first milestone involved bandwidth reduction and almost all licensees met that challenge. Now we are moving through milestone 2, which involves bandwidth reduction, achieving a 10 MHz frequency split and government spectrum harmonisation in the 450-470 MHz part of the band. This presentation reports on progress thus far and describes what’s coming up next.
The ACMA is also engaging on long term licensing and band management proposals for harmonised government spectrum in the 400 MHz band. These proposals have the potential to deliver efficiency gains in licensing processes and enable far greater flexibility in network configuration.
