Case study: Bus sector – improving the visibility and reliability of bus services within the public transport sector using digital two-way radio

Tuesday 11 April - 11.30am-Noon
glen Norris, National Business Development Manager, The Orion Network and Mark McKenzie, Group Service Delivery Manager, Tranzdev NSW /

Buses are a significant public transport mode in all major cities. The bus sector provides extensive public transport coverage in all of Australia’s & NZ’s capital cities, including regular timetabled services and school buses to the community. In Australian metropolitan areas, buses provide approximately 40% of overall public transport trips amounting to nearly 600 million journeys per annum, or roughly 1.5 million trips each day.

In this presentation, you will hear how bus operators have met their gornment KPIs through improved operational efficiencies, and enhanced communication with the delivery of both voice and data via two-way radio. In addition to this, you will understand how cost savings have been made through depot rationalisation with the creation of operation control centres and improved work health safety to bus drivers.

This digital mobile radio (DMR) solution is critical to the provision of better real-time monitoring of bus services, not only to inform service design and contract management for the government but also to deliver better customer service and innovation to the transport sector – buses.

This critical role for buses will continue as our cities evolve.
