Defending critical communications network infrastructure against cyber attacks

Wednesday 12 April 1.30pm-2.00pm
Bilal Javed / Senior Consulting Engineer, Nokia

As critical infrastructure such as energy, transportation and public safety is foundational to our modern society, it must be secure and able to withstand attacks, particularly cyber attacks from the individual hacktivist to highly organised groups. Since the communications network is the usual entry point of cyber attacks, it is necessary to assess the threats and vulnerabilities, as well as deploy a defence-in-depth framework to safeguard the network. This session will explore how to protect a critical communications network with the latest network and management technology based on a multilayer approach. It will also provide insight into new techniques to encrypt and authenticate traffic in an IP/MPLS communications network which is prevalently deployed by operators of critical infrastructure.
