What were they thinking? A look at how the brain works and why it is important to incident prevention
A common refrain heard after an incident occurs is ‘what were they thinking?’ or some more colourful iteration thereof. While we cannot know the exact answer to that question, we can gain insight by better understanding how the brain works, how it introduces unconscious hazards which impact an individual’s ability to ‘see’ hazards and assess the risk.
